Today, we sat down with Jeffery Chang, the Deputy President of ECOSOC. Jeffery comes from Taipei American School and is currently in his 5th year of Model United Nations. He has been to THIMUN once before, last year, where he represented the World Bank in ECOSOC.
Jeffery expected a conference similar to last year, with lively debate, and his expectations were definitely exceeded. When asked, he said that the level of debate surprised him this year, stating “there is always people raising their plaque cards.” Being fair to all delegates is a challenge to him, as some people are always willing to speak, while others are not. The best part, on the other hand, is being able to speak in front of a lot of people. His favorite conference and committee is definitely the THIMUN ECOSOC committee. The one piece of advice he would give to next year’s ECOSOC president and deputy president is “be friendly!”
