“It’s a bird!”

“No it’s a plane!”

“It’s…. an admin!”

Admins are some of the most important people in a conference. Imagine a conference without them: lost notes and delegates, messy tables, and just a general atmosphere of confusion. These admins are undoubtedly the heart and soul of what we do – with extreme organization, precision and kindness, they are the silent heroes that lurk in the shadows. While many assume that the only job an admin can do is passing notes around and handing out lunch, this is truly not the case. Here are six things that you didn’t know admins did:

They WAKE UP VERY EARLY so that they can set up for the day.

They have extreme patience and tolerance: some delegates are known to be quite obstinate and rude, and they deal with this on a daily basis with humility and a smile.

They work almost 12 hours a day, from 7am to 6:30pm. And you thought YOU were overworked.

They tend to all the IT problems that we may take for granted (such as Wi-Fi, printing, etc.)

They are responsible for setting up all the table arrangements and transporting equipment around the very large campus – it wasn’t set up like that before THIMUN arrived.

They are extremely short on manpower (twenty less than last year!) so they need to work at maximum efficiency at all times; plus they’re sacrificing their well-deserved holidays just to help us!

The bottom line is… Love your admins. Cherish your admins. And at the end of conference, if you can, give them a hug.
